Some questions you might have

Where in the world is Culebra?:

Culebra is a tiny - 3 x 7 miles as the snake curls - island off of Puerto Rico, 19 miles from the Big Island and 15 miles from St. Thomas, USVI.

Heat and Flavor - what a concept!:

Island Woman Hot Sauces come in two flavors, and flavor is the key word. While some hot sauces are designed to burn your precious body parts, Island Woman thinks with an island mind...build up the heat and do it with flavor permeating the experience...like Island Woman’s ma said, don’t gild the lily.

As for the vinegars, it is all about the gardens...pure vinegars with pure herbs that Island Woman grows in her gardens by the sea. Thai and broadleaf basils, racao, garlic, rosemary, and whatever is blooming at the time goes in.

What’s in this?:

All natural & no preservatives is the motto for everything that Island Woman makes. Peppers, spices, fruits, organic honey, and as much from the island as possible. That’s why the hot sauce needs to be refrigerated after opening. Of course, it never lasts too long, but just in case, stick it in the fridge if you don’t use it all up the first time!

I want some!:

Just send Island Woman your order with your name, address and what exactly you are wanting to buy and a money order (a PO money order is best if you are US, because we don’t have any fancy chain stores here like 7-11 and it makes it easier for me to get whatever you order to your mailbox faster) until I get PayPal set up. See Contact info for how to reach Island Woman!

Products

Manaya Heat:

Manaya Heat is a shudderingly good combination of mangos, papayas, habanero peppers, herbs, spices and vinegars (not heavy on the vinegar!) and some other good stuff. It’s all about the flavor, with a heat taking it higher. Manaya Heat is great as a glaze, in rice, on eggs (Glenn the PO guy, who is the official Lali Dama of Island Woman Hot Sauce, swears it is best on toast - but Glenn also does shots of jalapeno juice on a regular basis, so use your own judgment) and a lot more. Email me with your favorite way to use it!

Honey Heat:

Honey Heat is sweet and hot in the best of ways, like Culebra. Roasted red bell peppers, honey, jalapeno peppers and natch, herbs and spices, vinegars (see above!) blend to bring out the best of the heat and the flavors.
Honey Heat is great on cream cheese - just take the block of cream cheese, pour some Honey Heat on it and wa la, instant snack. Ann, who owns the very cool Paradise Gift Store on Culebra, insists that the only way to eat leftover, preferably cold pizza is to lay on some Honey Heat.

Herbal Vinegars:

Island Woman Herbal Vinegars are all natural. As a small operation, the vinegar flavors are decided by what’s growing best in the garden at any given time. Sometimes it will be Thai or broadleaf basil and racao (an island herb like cilantro, but different!), sometimes garlic goes in, sometimes hot peppers. The vinegars are white, balsamic, or wine, depending on how much of what is around. Maybe Island Woman should name it grab bag vinegar because she never knows what flavor will be next. It will bring a wonderful flavor your salads or any other good food that a flavored vinegar will enhance. Try it on black beans and yellow rice...yum!

Both flavors of hot sauce (10oz.) are $12.00. Herbal Vinegars (10oz) $8.00
For awhile, Island Woman will pay the shipping!

Company Info

Culebra Island Botanicals came into being about 2003, a one woman company in a beautiful place. Island Woman Hot Sauces and Island Woman Herbal Vinegars seemed like a wonderful way to combine and share a love of gardening, cooking, good tasting condiments and Island Woman’s own love for this island. So far so good!
